Site Area: 1,460,000 sqm

Total Floor Area: 4,610,000 sqm

The project brief calledf for the design of the sub central business district within the Zhengdong New District located in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. The site was part of the master plan designed by Kisho Kurokawa in 2001. His master plan included our site and also a central business district located at the South of our site. This latter has already been completed and is currently being occupied.
At the first phase of the design, we have examined several schemes that would ensure harmony with Kurokawa’s CBD. The main design elements that came out of these studies are: arena-shaped buildings, baroque style ellipse, and a plaza named ‘The Water Surface Festival Plaza’ that can be used during the seasonal festivals.
Further, the design proposed to install a new traffic system and develop new energy saving plans to cater for the client‘s request.
LRT (Light Rail Transit), PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) and PM (Personal Mobility) were proposed as the new traffic system in this project. These will be operated only with electric energy. This mode of transporation allows to create a layered urban space within the city and to integrate the transporation system in the mega-architecture planned for the district.
