The Design of the EJUST campus was conceived in various layers that were designed separately and independently from one another, only to be juxtaposed at the end to generate an optimal matrix that will induce interaction, built-in flexibility, and that will be in itself a paradigm shift in campus planning. These layers are the Environmental Roof, the Building System, the Transportation System, the Landscape, and the Subterranean Network.
Transportation, or transportation technology, since its inception, has defined and shaped our different physical environments. These physical environments on the other hand have generated their own set of needs and requirements which were not always acquired due to limitations imposed by the same transportations system. This is specifically the case in the conventional campus planning, where the need to provide road infrastructure for vehicles and the need to sustain a relatively easy campus way finding system have dictated a dominant circulation spine and imposed a form of segregation and compartmentalization among building. The campus of the 21st century needs to replace this rigid segregation with a more fluid and interactive connection. In order to attain a new transportation network that can cater for both the pedestrians and personal mobility users, and integrate the campus in a dynamic way, a neuron-like network was proposed for the campus.
